St. Peter’s will observe “Back to Church Sunday” on September 29. On this day a worldwide invitation is extended to worship at St. Peter’s and other churches. Michael Harvey’s presentation on June 20 was part of St. Peter’s preparation to become not only a welcoming church, but also an inviting church. Michael Harvey’s proposal is to double church attendance on one Sunday in particular, September 29, and to follow up with increased membership. St. Peter’s Witness Committee invites you to join this international, multi-denominational movement.
Henry Melchior Mühlenberg (1711-1787) was a Lutheran pastor, sent by the Francke Foundations in Halle, Germany to the North American colony of Pennsylvania in 1742. He was instrumental in organizing the first Lutheran synod in the colonies, and is considered a founding father of Lutheranism in North America. One of his sons became a Lutheran pastor; a second son became a priest of the Anglican Church.
During the national Anglican-Lutheran Joint Assembly, St. Peter’s will host a travelling exhibition celebrating Mühlenberg’s life and legacy. The exhibition will be open daily, 29 June – 7 July, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm Monday-Saturday, 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm Sundays.
